FARIDABAD/NEW DELHI: A property dealer against whom 13 cases, including attempt to murder, were filed was shot dead inside Faridabad court complex on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Shashi Nagar, a resident of Bhagrola village in Tigaon.
Shashi had come to the court to attend trial proceedings in one of the cases. He was waiting near his lawyer’s chamber around 1pm when three men fired at him.
Shashi tried to flee through a small gate adjacent to the chamber. However, he fell down just in front of the gate. He was hit by 10 bullets, said DCP Central Devendra Yadav. Shashi was rushed to the Sarvodaya Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The accused fled in a red Swift car.
The police recovered 12 used bullets from the spot. The men used a broken wall to enter and flee the court complex, said an eyewitness.
Faridabad Central Police has registered a case of murder. The victim’s family has named seven people in the FIR and some of them are being questioned. The three assailants have not been identified yet. “We will be making the arrests soon,” said Faridabad police commissioner A S Chawla. Old enmity seems to be the reason behind the murder, said police.
Shashi’s relatives blocked the Ajrounda Chowk on the Delhi-Agra highway for over an hour demanding arrests and questioning how the assailants managed to escape from the court premises. They did not even let cops send the body for postmortem. The blockade was lifted after top police officers, including the commissioner and sessions judge Darshan Singh, visited the spot and promised action within the next five days.
